Our History

The Northern Pride was one of the two expansion teams for the 2008 season of the QRL Wizard Queensland Cup, along with the Mackay Cutters, against whom they played their debut game.

Both teams are feeder clubs to the North Queensland Cowboys.

The Club was formed to create a regionally based talent development pathway for players, coaches and administrators.

The Club is a development club built on the phrase ‘Born and Bred’.

The Northern Pride competes in the Host Plus Cup, as well as the Cyril Connell Challenge, Mal Meninga Cup, Harvey Norman U19’s and Hasting Deering Colts.

Prior to the creation of the Club, talented Far North Queensland rugby league players were invariably forced to move away from the region to go to schools and/or join southern-based state league and national leagues clubs.

In the club’s short 14-year history, the Northern Pride has built an enviable track record competing in:

• Nine finals series
• Winning two minor premierships
• Two grand finals and
• One national premiership
