Northern Pride halfback Ryan Ghietti has won a well-deserved call up to the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys for this weekend’s trial against the Brisbane Broncos.

Following a strong season for the Northern Pride and a starring World Cup Qualifying campaign culminating in a field goal which ensured the Azzuri a place in the World Cup as the last qualifiers, Ryan Ghietti has been called up to play in this weekend’s trial at Redcliffe.

The strength of the relationship between the Cowboys and the Pride will provide a feeling of familiarity for Ghietti.  He will join close mates and team mates Joel Riethmuller and Luke Harlen, Innisfail native Scott Bolton as well as new Pride recruit Ethan Lowe at the Cowboys to prepare for the weekend’s game.

Ghietti mentioned this himself stating “One of the important parts of the Pride is that you can feed through to the Cowboys so hopefully I can make Saturday night a success.”

“I just have to take everything I can on board from both the coaches and the players.”

Cowboys Coach Neil Henry said “I spoke to Ryan at the weekend when we had our academy up in Cairns and he’s very excited about the opportunity.  My plans are to rotate Ray Thompson into hooker at some stage opening the way for Ryan to get plenty of time to show his wares.”

Ghietti joins a long line of Pride players to play at a higher level in our short history.  The ability of players to develop in their home region through the Pride system from 15 year olds through to Intrust Super Cup players and then transition into the elite level is something totally unique to sport in Far North Queensland and something both the Pride and Cowboys are extremely proud to provide.
