The Northern Pride recently spent two weeks visiting every school (130 in total) in the Greater Cairns area to spread the word on Rugby League, healthy living and participating in junior sport.
Joined by players from NRL clubs the St. George Illawarra Dragons, Sydney Roosters, New Zealand Warriors, and the North Queensland Cowboys, the Far North's schools were saturated with footballing talent spreading the NRL’s One Community message of “Eat Well, Play Well, Stay Well". Visiting 130 schools from Cardwell to the south, Alexandria Bay to the north, and Mount Garnet to the west, the Take Pride Program were welcomed by over 50 000 students who participated in clinics and assemblies. Each school was left with a goodies bag containing Northern Pride team posters and a Northern Pride football, whilst the respective NRL clubs donated posters and merchandise. Enforcing the Eat well, Play Well, Stay Well message, students were encouraged to eat healthy, be active, and play fair by their footballing heroes. Coordinated by the Northern Pride, ARL Development, QRL, Cassowary Coast Development, NRL’s One Community, and each of the NRL clubs, a big thank you is given to all those that helped make this years Schools Blitz such a success, especially the schools for being so accommodating and supportive of the initiative. |
