The inaugural Skytrans Take Pride Holiday Camp has been hailed as a resounding success by all who took part, and already we have been inundated with requests for more camps. The camp over saw a total of 187 kids which included 26 who came from communities in the cape such as Aurukun, Pormpuraaw, Kowanyama, Mapoon, Weipa, Bamaga, Injinoo, New Mapoon, Umagico and Seisia. Players took part in Rugby League skills sessions, as well as nutritional talks, fire and rescue presentations, media handling, strength and conditioning displays, and ice baths!!!
A big thank you to Skytrans for bringing these kids down and giving them a wonderful opportunity to not only learn more about Rugby League, but also to learning more about life outside of their own communities. The Camp was a great opportunity for the Cape players, and also for local players to brush up on their skills and hopefully learn from the regions highest profile outfit. It was also a great introductory activity to those who don’t play regularly. One parent even commented how the camp has now proven the catalyst for his son to join a junior Rugby League side next year after the Camp provided him with much needed confidence after he was taught the proper techniques involved in staying safe while playing junior Rugby League. |
