| Congratulations Cairns! The Northern Pride RLFC has been accepted into the Wizard State Rugby League competition.
The State League is widely recognised as the next best Rugby League competition in the country behind the National Rugby League competition. The Queensland Cup provides a pathway for players into the NRL, with a number of NRL Clubs using Queensland Cup teams as “feeder” teams. In any given week there are dozens of NRL players playing in the Queensland Cup competition with players regularly called up to the NRL ranks each week.
With the North Queensland Cowboys participating in the NRL U20 competition they will no longer field a Young Guns team in the state league, which makes the Northern Pride vital to the Cowboys as a feeder club for their players over 20 years of age. The Northern Pride will also provide a direct career pathway for junior players in the Cairns region and enable the Cowboys to retain more players for development into their NRL team.
The official feeder club status to the Cowboys provides the Northern Pride with strong support, instant credibility and access to one of the premiere clubs in the National Rugby League.
The Northern Pride’s mission is to ensure Rugby League is sustained, promoted and nurtured in Far North Queensland, Cape communities and PNG by having a quality team representing the area at the highest level available. This is achieved by;
Growing and promoting the club in the community.
Building strong and positive relationships with all key stakeholders in Far North Queensland Rugby League including all senior and junior Rugby League clubs.
Creating a professional, successful culture on and off the playing field.
Growing and developing local talent to provide a pathway and opportunity to pursue a Rugby League career.
To develop junior talent by way of implementation of an Academy and junior development program.
To funnel any potential profits generated by the Northern Pride back into the development of local Rugby League.
To ensure Rugby League is maintained as the dominant football code in the region. |
